A story about the famous professor and philosopher Martin Buber and his nine cats. Buber was active in the Zionist movement and moved to Israel after the Nazis came to power in the 1930s.

Shoham’s Bangle tells the story of a young Jewish-Iraqi girl named Shoham and her life in Baghdad with her family. Shoham details her family’s journey to Israel and her memories of Iraq.

It’s crucial for young readers to learn about life in the former Soviet Union. This touching graphic novel illustrates how the communist system suppressed Jewish identity, how brave individuals resisted the totalitarian regime, and how Americans helped defeat it.

Authors of picture books often seek to glorify their vision of moral courage. However, when an author’s vision relies on antisemitic stereotypes and inaccurate history, the resulting picture book will be offensive and even dangerous.

CAMERA — A May 12 article in the Fairfax County Times about incidents of antisemitism in Fairfax County, Virginia, schools quoted K-12 Program Director Rebecca Schgallis. “Antisemitism reflects a broader ideological problem rather than a series of isolated incidents,” said Schgallis, and Fairfax County “continues to struggle to consistently implement guidance on antisemitism…resulting in uneven recognition of and responses to incidents across schools.”
In their 1848 Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels famously stated communists seek to “rescue education from the influence of the ruling class” by changing the type of social intervention that informs instruction — later to be known as “re-education.”
The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA) objects to the article “‘They didn’t even read the book’: How children’s authors are being canceled over Palestine,” by Joseph Gedeon, published online on October 9 and viewed in a browser.
