Rife with Bias and Inaccuracies, Understanding Palestine Has No Place in Schools

By Jess Sadick, Senior Education Analyst

Teach Palestine’s latest resource for educators, Understanding Palestine, is politically biased and distorts history to delegitimize Israel and Jewish selfdetermination. It falsely portrays Palestinians as perpetual victims and Israel as a colonial oppressor while omitting historical and legal context. Terms such as “genocide,” “ethnic cleansing,” “colonialism,” “antiPalestinian racism,” and “Free Palestine” are misapplied to Israel, weaponized to demonize the Jewish state, erase the legitimacy of Zionism as a national liberation movement, and aim to silence dissent and normalize anti-Israel and antisemitic narratives.

Understanding Palestine not only promotes a onesided narrative that vilifies Israel, delegitimizes Jews’ historical connection to the land of Israel, and undermines factual accuracy in education by equating anti-Israel positions with justice, but aims to infiltrate this narrative into schools.

Understanding Palestine is not an exception, but the norm. Teach Palestine, a project of the Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA), a radical, pro-Palestinian organization linked to terrorismi , offers curriculum, books, articles, and other resources vilifying Israel. Its materials are often listed as resources by other antiIsrael organizations, such as Black Lives Matterii at School and the Zinn Education Projectiii. Teach Palestine recommends schoolbooks that demonize and dehumanize Israelis and erase historical links to important Jewish cities, such as Jerusalem and Hebron.
